Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot

Overall Impression:

Petit Verdot is native to Bordeaux but is not planted to any great extent there. This black grape variety ripens later than Cabernet Sauvignon and when fully ripe produces very rich and tannic wines that can be aged for long periods. This is a difficult grape to ripen but can be a tremendous addition to Bordeaux style blends or Meritage. Petit Verdot has very thick skins and is quite resistant to rot. Blend with varieties that need structure.
