Malbec most likely originated in northern Burgundy. In Western France, Malbec is known as Côt. Malbec is a black grape that is used primarily for blending in France, including Bordeaux. In Argentina, the Malbec grape produces rich, complex, and velvety varietal wines that are high in alcohol and extract. In California, Malbec is part of the Meritage blend.
