Sangiovese/Brunello

Sangiovese/Brunello

Overall Impression:

Sangiovese probably originated in Tuscany and has a very long history. There are several sub varieties of Sangiovese such as Brunello. This is Italy’s most planted grape with tremendous variations in quality. Sangiovese can be hard and acidic in years when this slow ripening variety does not get enough heat and alcoholic and rich wines that age well in years with good heat. This variety was traditionally blended with varieties that soften the hard edge of Sangiovese to create blends such as Chianti. Blends well with Cabernet Sauvignon.
