Wine making in the southern Rhône dates back to early Roman history.
Grenache makes up the majority of red grapes planted in the southern Rhône with increasing levels of Syrah. Carignan, Cinsaut, and Mourvèdre are also widely planted. These varieties are used to make an array of blends with many levels of quality and longevity.
