Viognier

Viognier

Overall Impression:

Viogneir has been grown in the northern Rhône for centuries but almost disappeared in the 1960’s. A resurgence in popularity of red wines of the Rhône caused an increase in demand for Viognier, which is used to perfume the red wine blends.

Viognier grapes have a deep yellow color and a high sugar level when fully ripe. Wines made with Viognier tend to be alcoholic with a strong aromatic profile of peaches and apricots and a relatively low acid level. Viognier is increasingly grown in California and has seen promising success in eastern Washington state.
