Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer

Overall Impression:

Gewürztraminer is a mutation of the Traminer variety. Gewürz in this context means perfumed and is an appropriate name for the variety. Traminer has been vinified since at least AD 1000 but the Gewürztraminer variety is a much more recent development.

Gewürztraminer produces a very distinct, extremely aromatic and full bodied white wine that is easy to recognize. Wines from this variety are pink colored with aromas of lychee and rose. The acidity can be quite high along with high sugar levels. Wines range from sweet to dry and quality can also vary widely.
