Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc

Overall Impression:

Known a Pineau in its native region of the middle Loire. This variety most likely comes from Anjou but has spread to most of the wine making world.

Chenin Blanc is widely planted and makes a wide range of wines. In its home region, Chenin Blanc can make very long-lived sweet wines but is more likely to be associated with mediocre wines from South Africa and North and South America. When managed for quality fruit production, Chenin Blanc can yield wines with good acidity and aromas described as honey and damp straw.
