Pinot Gris produces fruit that varies in color (even in the same cluster) but is typically brownish pink. Wines made from this variety tend to be full-bodied, complex, with a smokey and pungent aroma that is more subtle and not at all over-powering. Pinot Gris is grown throughout Europe with large concentrations in Alsace and also in Italy and Germany. In the United States, Oregon has had great success with Pinto Gris.
