In 1978 David Logsdon began culturing yeast as a lab assistant in college while working towards a degree in Food Science & Technology. There he spent time maintaining bacteria and yeast stock cultures in the microbiology lab. During his time at college, he began home brewing, and later he began brewing professionally while developing yeast culturing for microbreweries and home brewing. After many months of research and development be took his lab and brewing experience, along with his scientific ideas and invention of the “smack pack” to form Wyeast Laboratories. Over 20 years later, he continues to make beer and has used his early lab experience with help from family and friends to make Wyeast Laboratories a world leader in manufacturing pure liquid yeast. :

Jeannette Kreft-Logsdon

Jenny, a native Oregonian, grew up in the Willamette Valley. She spent summers weeding onions and picking strawberries and eventually worked for many of the food processing companies in the area. Realizing that there must be something better she studied and obtained a Food Science degree. After five years working for Pioneer Hi-Bred International in the Quality Control & Research Departments in Portland Oregon, the company relocated to Iowa. Having no interest in moving out of Oregon, Jenny had already started collecting and maintaining cultures that would eventually become the Wyeast Culture Collection. While attending college Jenny met Dave, need I say more, a few years later Wyeast was born, 1986! In 1988, triplets were thrown into the picture to make life more interesting. For the last 18 years it’s been interesting juggling the business and raising three awesome girls who are now college bound in 2007. Jenny currently has no other interest outside of work and family. As she considers Wyeast as her hobby and family too!:

Deborah Wolman is the Human Resource/Accounting Manager for Wyeast. Migrating from Northern California, Deborah fully appreciates the flexibility and creativity of working for a family owned business in beautiful Hood River. When not working, Deborah can be found at the barn, riding her horse Oscar, with her Springer Spaniel, Zoey by her side. She resides in White Salmon, WA with her husband, Abel.:
